What's New?

The Miami County Fair Association is proud to introduce the new addition to the Fair Grounds.  Building #10 located to the east of the Rodeo Arena.

This building was generously donated to the Miami County Fair Assocation by Roslyn Osbourne.  We would like to thank Ms. Osbourne on behalf of the Miami County Fair Assocation.  Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

The donation of the building was just the beginning for this wonderful project.  Moving and setting up this building created a great challenge for members of the Miami County Fair Assocation as well as volunteers and outside contributors.

During the moving process, the building was lined with plywood and loose insulation to be taken down first.  In addition to the building coming down, the wiring also had to be taken down.  Before the actual demolition process, the plywood and insulation was loaded into cattle trailers piece by piece and transported to the set-up site at the Miami County Fair Grounds.  It took three weekends to take the insulation and plywood down with a great deal of 4-H Youth's helping along with a dozen of outside adult volunteers.  Jim Cannon took the building itself down.  It was then loaded onto Semi-trailers and Flat-bed trailers and moved to the set-up site.  This process took roughly another three weekends.  In addition, bobcats were donated to help with the demolition process as well as the set-up.  In all, it took about 30+ people and 6 weekends to complete the demolition and moving of this building.

The successful removal and set-up of this building can be attributed to the many volunteers that contributed time and resources to this project, but another milestone was to be confronted by long-time Fair Board Member, Beckie Dysart.  Financing was an issue that faced the Miami County Fair Association in seeing that this project was completed successfully.  Beckie Dysart donated a great deal of time preparing and writing a grant application that was approved by the Baehr Foundation.  The Baehr Foundation was the missing piece in this project and on behalf of the Miami County Fair Association and 4-H Youth, "We Thank You Very Much for your Gratious Donation."

It has been estimated that 700 hours went into the completion of this project.  Making up the 700 hours included building the pad and road around the building completed by Darrell Gowing and taking the metal framing down and putting back up was completed by Jim Cannon.  In addtion, a number of hours were spent putting on the roof, siding, handing doors, dirt work and electrical work.

This project was completed this winter despite the less than desirable weather and is ready for use.  This building has been set forth as a multi-purpose building that the Miami County Fair Assocation plans to use for its' horse and cattle shows during the Fair and Rodeo this coming summer.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the businesses and individuals that helped in making this dream a reality.
